My name is Elena. I write about southern food over at biscuitsandsuch.com. I am from Durham, North Carolina. I write here about life. I’m married to a man named Dan. We met in college at the Maryland Institute College of Art. After graduating we lived in Maryland for four more years, two in Takoma Park, two in Baltimore. These days we call Wilmington, NC home. I eat, cook, run, make photographs, and lay on the floor. Dan develops the web and blows things up on the internet. We both spend a lot of time snuggling our puppy, Kaywinnet Lee Frye. That we named a dog after a Firefly character might tell you everything you need to know about us. I’m glad you found me here.
THE NAME: Many years ago, I worked at a small nonprofit in Baltimore as part of my AmeriCorps service. I loved everyone I worked with, but one man in particular made me feel part of the family from the beginning. Over time his nicknames for me evolved, and by the end of my year he was calling me “Misselenaeous.” It remains one of only two nicknames I’ve ever been given, and I love it.
